Learn how to configure CleanBrowsing DNS on your Telstra modem or gateway to enable content filtering for your home network.
Open a web browser and navigate to your Telstra modem's admin interface. The default address is typically 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Log in using your administrator credentials. The default username and password can usually be found on a sticker on the bottom or back of your modem.
Note: Some newer Telstra Smart Modems (e.g., Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 or Gen 3) may have limited DNS configuration options through the web interface. If your modem does not allow DNS changes, consider using a separate router behind the Telstra modem or configuring DNS on individual devices.
Once logged in, look for the Advanced or Network settings section. Navigate to LAN Settings or DHCP Settings depending on your modem model. Look for DNS Server configuration options.
Change the DNS mode from Automatic to Manual (or Static). Enter the CleanBrowsing DNS addresses:
If you have a paid CleanBrowsing plan, use the DNS IPs provided in your account dashboard instead.
Click Apply or Save to confirm the changes. Your modem may restart automatically. Once back online, verify the DNS configuration is working by visiting dnsleaktest.com and running a standard test. Results should display CleanBrowsing in the response.
You may need to clear your local DNS cache and browser cache, or disconnect and reconnect your devices to pick up the new DNS settings.
