Network-Based Filters
Filtering happens at the network level — at the router, via a DNS service, or at the ISP. CleanBrowsing is a network-based filter that operates at the DNS level, making it device-agnostic and effective across your entire network.
Browser-Based Filters
Filtering happens inside your web browser using extensions or built-in features. The limitation is that users can switch browsers or disable extensions.
Application-Based Filters
Software installed on a device intercepts and filters requests. Antivirus programs and parental control applications often include this. It covers all applications on the device, not just the browser.
Service-Based Filters
Built into specific platforms — search engines offer SafeSearch, social platforms have content restrictions, and video platforms offer restricted modes. Useful but limited to the specific service.
