Change DNS on Synology RT2600ac

Learn how to change the DNS settings on your Synology RT2600ac router. This guide covers both the Internet and Local Network DNS sections, plus disabling IPv6 for proper filtering.

Step 1: Update Internet DNS Values

Log in to your Synology RT2600ac admin panel. Navigate to the Internet section and locate Manually Configure DNS Server. Update the Preferred and Alternative DNS fields with the CleanBrowsing addresses:

  • Preferred DNS: 185.228.168.168
  • Alternative DNS: 185.228.169.168

Also access the IPv6 settings within this section and set them to OFF to prevent DNS bypass.

Note: If you have a paid CleanBrowsing plan, use the DNS IPs provided in your dashboard instead.

Step 2: Update Local Network DNS Values

Select Local Network from the navigation menu. Find the DHCP Server section and locate the Primary and Secondary DNS fields. Enter the same CleanBrowsing DNS values:

  • Primary DNS: 185.228.168.168
  • Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168

Also access the IPv6 settings and uncheck Enable IPv6 to ensure all traffic uses your configured DNS.

Step 3: Save Changes

Click the Apply or Save button to finalize your DNS changes. The router may take a moment to apply the new settings.

Step 4: Verify Configuration

Test your configuration by visiting badexample.com — you should see a "domain not found" error, confirming the filter is active.

Allow 10-15 minutes for changes to take full effect across your network.
