Change DNS on Google Wifi Mesh Router

Learn how to change the DNS settings on your Google Wifi mesh router using the Google Home app. By configuring CleanBrowsing DNS, you can enable content filtering across your entire home network.

Step 1: Open the Google Home App

Open the Google Home app on your mobile device. From the home screen, locate and tap the gear icon to access your router settings.

Step 2: Navigate to DNS Settings

Scroll down to find Advanced Networking and select it. This may prompt you to install the Google Wifi app if needed. Once in the app, tap the third tab at the bottom, then navigate to Network & General > Advanced Networking > DNS.

Step 3: Update DNS Settings

Select the Custom option and enter the CleanBrowsing DNS addresses:

  • Primary DNS: 185.228.168.168
  • Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168

Click Save Settings to apply. The router will reboot during this process, which is normal.

Note: If you have a paid CleanBrowsing plan, use the DNS IPs provided in your dashboard instead.

Step 4: Verify Configuration

Once the router has rebooted, test your configuration by visiting badexample.com — you should see a "domain not found" error, confirming the filter is active.

Allow 10-15 minutes for changes to take full effect across your network.
