Change DNS on Apple Time Capsule

Learn how to change the DNS settings on your Apple Time Capsule using AirPort Utility. By configuring CleanBrowsing DNS, you can enable content filtering across your entire home network.

Step 1: Open AirPort Utility

Open Spotlight Search on your Mac (or search on your desktop) and type AirPort Utility. Launch the application and select your Time Capsule device. Enter your password when prompted, then click the Edit button.

Step 2: Update DNS Settings

Navigate to the Internet tab. You will see fields for DNS servers. Enter the CleanBrowsing DNS addresses:

  • Primary DNS: 185.228.168.168
  • Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168

Note: If you have a paid CleanBrowsing plan, use the DNS IPs provided in your dashboard instead.

Step 3: Save and Restart

Click Update to save your changes. You will be prompted to confirm a network reset. Accept this action, and the Time Capsule will restart with the new DNS settings applied.

Step 4: Verify Configuration

Once the network has restarted, test your configuration by visiting badexample.com — you should see a "domain not found" error, confirming the filter is active.

Allow 10-15 minutes for changes to take full effect across your network.
