Change DNS on UniFi USG

Learn how to update the DNS settings on your UniFi USG using Controller Version 6.2.25 to use CleanBrowsing. This guide walks you through the process to enable network-wide content filtering.

Step 1: Access the Controller

Navigate to the UniFi dashboard at https://unifi.ui.com/dashboard and log in with your credentials.

Step 2: Locate DNS Settings

Navigate to Settings > Internet. Select the WAN option to open the configuration dialog where the DNS settings are managed.

Step 3: Enable Advanced Options

Click the Advanced button to expand additional configuration options. This reveals the DNS server fields that are hidden by default.

Step 4: Enter DNS Values

In the DNS Server fields, enter the following CleanBrowsing DNS addresses:

  • Primary DNS: 185.228.168.168
  • Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168

Note: If you have a paid CleanBrowsing plan, use the DNS IPs provided in your dashboard instead.

Step 5: Apply Changes

Click Apply to save and implement the new DNS settings. This will update the DNS configuration across your entire network.

To verify the configuration is working, open a terminal and run:

nslookup -type=txt debug.cleanbrowsing.org

The response should confirm you are using CleanBrowsing DNS.

Note: This guide is specific to Controller Version 6.2.25. The interface may differ slightly on other controller versions.
