Change DNS on Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro

Learn how to update the DNS settings on your Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro (UDM Pro) to use CleanBrowsing. This guide walks you through the UniFi console to enable network-wide content filtering.

Step 1: Access the UniFi Console

Log into your UDM Pro Network Controller by navigating to https://unifi.ui.com/dashboard in your web browser. Enter your Ubiquiti account credentials to access the dashboard.

Step 2: Navigate to DNS Settings

From the main dashboard, select your UDM Pro device. Click the Gear icon located in the bottom left of the menu. In the settings panel, navigate to Networks and then select the WAN settings section.

Step 3: Update DNS Configuration

Scroll down to the Common Settings section and locate the DNS Server options. Enter the following CleanBrowsing DNS addresses:

  • Primary DNS: 185.228.168.168
  • Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168

Note: If you have a paid CleanBrowsing plan, use the DNS IPs provided in your dashboard instead.

Step 4: Save and Verify

Click Save to apply the changes. This will update the DNS settings across your entire network.

To verify the configuration is working, open a terminal and run:

nslookup -type=txt debug.cleanbrowsing.org

The response should confirm you are using CleanBrowsing DNS.

Important: If Ubiquiti's built-in content filtering is enabled, it may override your DNS settings. See our Override Ubiquiti DNS Settings guide to disable it.
