Change DNS on Hitron CGNM 2250

Learn how to change the DNS settings on your Hitron CGNM 2250 router. This guide covers logging in, switching from automatic to manual DNS, and configuring CleanBrowsing for content filtering.

Step 1: Log In to the Router

Open a web browser and go to http://192.168.0.1. The default admin username is cusadmin. The password can be found on a sticker on the back of the router. Shaw customers can find it on their modem.

Step 2: Update DNS Settings

Navigate to Basic Settings, then click on the DNS tab. Switch the DNS mode from Automatic to Manual. Enter the CleanBrowsing DNS addresses:

  • Primary DNS1: 185.228.168.168
  • DNS2: 185.228.169.168

Note: If you have a paid CleanBrowsing plan, use the DNS IPs provided in your dashboard instead.

Step 3: Save and Verify

Click Save Changes to apply the new DNS settings. The system may require several minutes for DHCP lease updates. You can speed this up by disabling and re-enabling your WiFi connection.

Test your configuration by visiting badexample.com — you should see a "domain not found" error, confirming the filter is active.

Allow 10-15 minutes for changes to take full effect across your network.
