Change DNS on Xbox, PlayStation & Wii U

Learn how to configure CleanBrowsing DNS on your Xbox One/Series, PlayStation 4/5, or Wii U to enable content filtering and parental controls on your gaming console.

Step 1: Xbox One / Xbox Series

To change DNS settings on your Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S:

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
  2. Navigate to Settings > General > Network settings.
  3. Select Advanced settings.
  4. Select DNS settings.
  5. Choose Manual.
  6. Enter the Primary DNS: 185.228.168.168
  7. Enter the Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168
  8. Press B to confirm and save the settings.

Note: If you have a paid CleanBrowsing plan, use the DNS IPs provided in your dashboard instead.

Step 2: PlayStation 4

To change DNS settings on your PlayStation 4:

  1. Go to Settings from the main menu.
  2. Select Network.
  3. Select Set Up Internet Connection.
  4. Choose your connection type: Wi-Fi or LAN Cable.
  5. Select Custom.
  6. For Wi-Fi, select your network and enter your password.
  7. Set IP Address Settings to Automatic.
  8. Set DHCP Host Name to Do Not Specify.
  9. Set DNS Settings to Manual.
  10. Enter Primary DNS: 185.228.168.168
  11. Enter Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168
  12. Set MTU Settings to Automatic.
  13. Set Proxy Server to Do Not Use.
  14. Select Test Internet Connection to verify.

Step 3: PlayStation 5

To change DNS settings on your PlayStation 5:

  1. Go to Settings from the home screen.
  2. Select Network.
  3. Select Settings (under Network).
  4. Select Set Up Internet Connection.
  5. Select your current network connection and press the Options button.
  6. Select Advanced Settings.
  7. Change DNS Settings from Automatic to Manual.
  8. Enter Primary DNS: 185.228.168.168
  9. Enter Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168
  10. Select OK to save your settings.

Step 4: Wii U

To change DNS settings on your Wii U:

  1. From the Wii U main menu, open System Settings.
  2. Select the Internet icon.
  3. Select Connect to the Internet.
  4. Tap Connections in the top-right corner.
  5. Select your active connection.
  6. Select Change Settings.
  7. Tap the DNS arrow and select Don't Auto-Obtain.
  8. Enter Primary DNS: 185.228.168.168
  9. Enter Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168
  10. Confirm your changes and save.

Step 5: Verify Configuration

To confirm that CleanBrowsing DNS is active on your gaming console:

  1. Open the web browser on your console (if available).
  2. Visit dnsleaktest.com and run the Standard Test.
  3. The results should show CleanBrowsing in the DNS server list.

Allow 10-15 minutes for changes to take effect. You can also restart your console or toggle the network connection to force an immediate update.
