Change DNS on Nintendo Switch

Learn how to configure CleanBrowsing DNS on your Nintendo Switch to enable content filtering and keep your family safe while gaming online.

Step 1: Open System Settings

From the Nintendo Switch home screen, select System Settings (the gear icon at the bottom of the screen).

Step 2: Navigate to Internet Settings

In System Settings, scroll down the left-side menu and select Internet. Then choose Internet Settings.

Step 3: Select Your Network

Your Nintendo Switch will scan for available networks. Select the Wi-Fi network (SSID) you are currently connected to. Then select Change Settings.

Step 4: Change DNS Settings

Scroll down to DNS Settings. By default, this is set to Automatic. Change it to Manual.

Step 5: Enter DNS Addresses

You will see fields for Primary DNS and Secondary DNS, which default to 0.0.0.0. Replace them with the CleanBrowsing Family Filter DNS addresses:

  • Primary DNS: 185.228.168.168
  • Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168

Note: If you have a paid CleanBrowsing plan, use the DNS IPs provided in your dashboard instead.

Step 6: Save and Verify

Select Save to apply your new DNS settings.

To verify the configuration is working:

  1. Open the browser on your Nintendo Switch (if available) and visit our DNS Leak Test.
  2. Run the Standard Test.
  3. The results should show CleanBrowsing in the DNS server list.

Allow 10-15 minutes for DNS changes to propagate. To force an immediate update, toggle your Wi-Fi connection off and back on.
