How to Restrict Apps on iOS Devices (iPad/iPhone)

To manage app accessibility on iOS devices, utilize the built-in Screen Time settings. This feature allows administrators to control which apps can be accessed by local users. Apps not permitted will be inaccessible without a PIN.

Configure App Restrictions on iOS

Apple provides limited options for restricting apps, primarily focusing on default apps. Here’s how to manage these settings:

Default Apple Apps:

  • Open Settings.
  • Navigate to Screen Time.
  • Select Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  • Enter a four-digit passcode.
  • Toggle on Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  • Click Allowed Apps.
  • Disable the apps you want to restrict (enabled by default).

Non-Apple Apps: Apple does not directly support restrictions for third-party apps, but you can use the App Limits option to restrict these apps indirectly:

  • Open Settings.
  • Go to Screen Time.
  • Select App Limits.
  • Tap Add Limit.
  • Choose a category (e.g., Social).
  • Select the specific app (e.g., Instagram).
  • Click Next.
  • Set the time restriction (e.g., 1 minute).
  • Tap Add.

Although not perfect, this method limits the app’s usage to 1 minute per day, resetting at midnight.

By following these steps, you can effectively manage and restrict app usage on iOS devices, ensuring better control and security.
