Setup Private DNS on Android Version 9 +

Android version 9 introduced a new native feature  allows a user to encrypt DNS using the DNS-over-TLS (DOT) protocol. This guide will show you how to access and enable this feature on most Android devices running version 9 or higher.

Manually Configure Private DNS on Android

Step 1: Access Private DNS Settings

  • Open Settings.
  • Navigate to Network & Internet.
  • Tap on Advanced.
  • Select Private DNS.

Step 2: Add the Private DNS hostname

Choose Private DNS provider hostname.

Enter the desired DNS hostname from the following options. Here is a quick example using our Free Filtering options:

  • Family Filter: family-filter-dns.cleanbrowsing.org

  • Adult Filter: adult-filter-dns.cleanbrowsing.org

  • Security Filter: security-filter-dns.cleanbrowsing.org

If you have a paid account you can use the values assigned in your dashboard.

By following these steps, you can ensure your DNS queries are encrypted, providing an additional layer of security and privacy.
