How to Update DNS Settings on a Telstra Modem

1. Connect to the modem

  • Connect your device to the Telstra modem (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).

2. Open modem settings

  • Open a browser and go to: http://192.168.0.1 (If that doesn’t work, try http://10.0.0.138)

3. Log in

  • Username: admin
  • Password:
    • Printed on the sticker on the modem OR
    • The password you previously set

4. Go to Advanced / LAN settings

Depending on modem version, look for one of these paths:

  • Advanced → Local Network → LAN
  • Advanced → Network → LAN
  • Settings → Advanced Settings

5. Change DNS settings

  • Find DNS Server, DHCP, or LAN DNS
  • Disable:
    • Automatic DNS
    • Obtain DNS automatically

6. Enter your DNS servers

Example (replace with your preferred DNS):

IPv4

Primary DNS:   185.228.168.168
Secondary DNS: 185.228.169.168

IPv6 (if shown)

Primary IPv6 DNS:   2a0d:2a00:1::
Secondary IPv6 DNS: 2a0d:2a00:2::

⚠️ Some Telstra modems do not support custom IPv6 DNS.
If IPv6 fields aren’t there, that’s normal — IPv4 DNS will still work.

7. Save & reboot

  • Click Save / Apply
  • Reboot the modem when prompted (or manually restart)
